The International Tamil Technical Professionals' Organization (ITTPO) with the help from individual donors and organizations around the world, have established a first of its kind high-tech educational establishment in the Vanni region of Sri Lanka. VanniTech is located in Kilinochchi, Sri Lanka and was inaugurated on 23rd of June, 2003.

 

The establishment – Vanni Institute of Technology (VanniTech), is currently teaching the students, instructors and professionals, the latest hardware, software and computer networking related technologies that are immediately beneficial to the region’s current technological and economical growth. Several technical professionals, experts, and well-wishers have volunteered their time and have made and continue to make considerable financial contribution towards the project. The third year budget for the operation is USD $93,000.

 

NGO

VanniTech is a non-profit, non-political, educational establishment with career oriented education that creates employment opportunities within the local regional. It is a registered Non-Governmental Organization in Sri Lanka.

 

Students and Staff

There are about 60 students admitted for each academic year. Best applicants are selected after going through a very stringent application screening process. VanniTech has about 30 academic and non-academic employees. The staff consists of graduates from University of North London, University of Jaffna, University of Moratuwa, University of Peradeniya and Singapore Informatics.

Facility

  • VanniTech facility consists of 3 administrative offices, two lecture halls, software lab, hardware lab, networking lab, language lab, library, cafeteria, gymnasium and a 13 room hostel.

  • All of the offices, lecture halls, labs and the library are networked. There are more than 50 computers in the network which consists of switches/routers and other networking equipments. It has complete Intranet service with e-mail, database servers and wireless connectivity.

  • VanniTech has a fully catalogued library with over 15,000 books.

  • Two diesel powered electrical generators provide adequate power supply to VanniTech.

Academic Program

Currently VanniTech offers 4 programs in the field of Database Application Development (DAD), Computer Communication and Networking (COM), Electronics (ELE), and Web based Application Development (WAD). The duration of the program is about 12 months.

 

TechShack

TechShack, the employment incubation center of VanniTech employs technical professionals as well as several VanniTech Graduates. It utilizes the students and graduates to serve the technological advancement of the region. TechShack, while providing technical solutions and assistance to governmental, non-governmental organizations and other local business entities, it has also attracted international outsourcing projects through its expertise, quality of service and competitive pricing. In addition, it supports companies and individuals to start their development center in Sri Lanka.

 

Future

VanniTech strives to become an institution to the level of leading universities around the world. The immediate goal is to build a permanent campus on its own land and make the 12 month program into a two year degreed one.
